If you care about what is happening to elderly Kansans, people with disabilities, those in need of mental health services, and people on Medicaid, come hear Dr. Robert Harder’s take on what Governor Brownback and the Republican Legislature are doing at the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.
Severe cutbacks in many services have been announced, many professional managers in SRS have been fired, and the governor has appointed many out-of-staters with political and idealogical agendas to major administrative positions.
Dr. Robert Harder, the first and longest serving director of the SRS, will share his insights into the radical and extreme changes at SRS and how the many Kansans served by it will be affected.

Clean air and water are the goals established by Congress beginning with the Clean Air Act of 1970 and the Clean Water Act of 1972. Since then administrations have varied in their commitments to these goals. President Obama has made a renewed commitment to them.
Karl Brooks, Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency in Kansas City, will speak to us about where we are on the road to a clean environment. He will explain the practical, everyday challenges faced by officials responsible for implementing environmental laws and will answer questions about his work.
Before his appointment, Brooks was Associate Professor of History and Environmental Studies at K.U., where he received his Ph.D. in 2000. He received the B.A. from Yale in 1978, the M.Sc. from the London School of Economics in 1980 and the J.D. from Harvard in 1883.
